Illinois Criminal Law Attorney

Being arrested and charged with a criminal offense in the state of Illinois does not mean you’re guilty or going to be convicted. I have dedicated Michael D. Risinger, P.C. to protecting the legal rights of people in central Illinois who have been charged with a felony, misdemeanor or juvenile delinquency crime.

Experienced Illinois Criminal Defense Attorney

As a former prosecutor handling felony and misdemeanor criminal cases, I have a significant background in criminal law and handling pre-trial negotiations and plea agreements, as well as trials. Having served as a prosecutor for six years, I understand how prosecutors handle cases, the resources available to them, and how they build and present cases. This experience and knowledge provides my Illinois criminal defense clients a significant advantage in and out of the courtroom.

I have experience in and am prepared to handle Illinois criminal defense cases involving:

Felony DUI/Aggravated DUI
Felony Driving While License Revoked/Suspended
Drug Crimes
Sex Crimes
Sexual Assault
Murder and Manslaughter
Reckless Homicide
Theft
Attempted Murder
Weapons Cases
Assault and Aggravated Battery
Forgery
Resisting Arrest
Juvenile Delinquency Cases
Under-age Drinking
Teen Drunk Driving
Expungement

Trust is one of the most important characteristics of an attorney-client relationship.   I strive to build a level of trust and openness that allows for the free communication necessary to prevent an Illinois criminal conviction. I work with my clients to ensure I understand the specifics of their case and they understand the legal hurdles they face and the possible range of consequences for each action we take.

Sometimes despite our wishes, circumstances dictate a plea of guilty to a charge rather than the risk of trial.  In those situations, plea negotiations will be undertaken with an eye on Expungement.  Expungement is the process of wiping away a client’s arrest record and conviction.  Sealing a record of conviction, often confused with Expungement, is similar.  Not all crimes can be sealed or expunged.  I have the experience and knowledge to inform my clients of their rights and options in this area.
